The ONLY way we will ever have peace on Earth is when the entire world submits to Christ
I was listening to a Christmas song yesterday that made a reference to peace all over the world and it occurred to me just how futile a wish that is apart from Jesus Christ–literally. Even when there is “peace” in the sense of international war, there is still a lack of peace everywhere (Ferguson, for example). It is literally impossible for mankind to reconcile true peace within our fallen world because people will ALWAYS have competing interests. Surrender and submission to Christ is the ONLY way we can have peace.
Think about it: when we surrender to Christ, our old self dies and we become a new creation–one that is submitting to the will of God and (albeit not easily) learning to put others before ourselves. So then, it stands to reason that the ONLY way we will ever have peace on Earth is when the entire world submits to Christ, thereby putting aside our desires, our choices, and our will to live out the will of God the Father. Such unity of purpose and a willingness to put others before ourselves is the ONLY way there will ever be peace.
That should give us pause as to how that applies to us individually, but also should remind us how impossible it will ALWAYS be for mankind to truly improve/change the world apart from Christ. Some of you may be saying, “duhhh”, but although I’ve always known that “theologically”, I don’t know that I ever thought about it in a true matter-of-fact sense.
So, if you want to change the world, it starts and ends with Jesus Christ.
We need to get busy.
